INSPIRATION
Maureen draws inspiration from both everyday life and the world
of fairy tales, mythology, and religious imagery. Whether capturing
familiar moments or reimagining timeless stories, her work is infused
with character, nostalgia, and emotional resonance. Often playful and
quirky, her creations reflect a rich imagination and a deep appreciation
for storytelling.
Inspired by traditional European porcelain figurines, combined with a
South African sensibility and African elements, her work reflects both
her South African and European roots, inviting viewers to uncover
layers of meaning and imagination.
Each piece is unique, showcasing her remarkable skill and creativity.
Today, 26 years after first joining a ceramic studio, Maureen is a
successful, self-taught professional artist with a vast body of work
exhibited and sold all over the world.
BRONZE: EMBRACING A NEW MEDIUM
Driven by a desire to continually evolve as an artist, Maureen
embraced a new challenge in 2018 when she decided to translate
some of her figurines into bronze . This venture into a new medium
opened up exciting creative possibilities and marked an important
milestone in her artistic development.
She produced an impressive and successful collection of limited-
edition bronze figurines, showcasing her versatility and commitment
to her artistic journey.
