Within South Africa we courier your artwork to your door - the shipping cost will show at the checkout.

When shipping art internationally, two primary options are commonly considered: crated and rolled. Crating involves securely packaging the artwork in a custom-built crate, providing maximum protection against physical damage but often resulting in higher shipping costs due to size and weight.
On the other hand, rolling art involves taking stretched paintings off the frame, carefully wrapping the artwork and placing it in a protective tube. This method is more cost-effective and suitable for flexible pieces.
Choosing between crating and rolling depends on the specific artwork's size, fragility, and budget, as well as the destination's shipping requirements and regulations.

We will be in touch regarding the best options for you.

    Description

“My deep connection to water, especially the ocean, is at the core of my creative process. The sea’s dynamic blend of power and peace gives me energy and inspiration, while also providing healing during life’s most challenging moments. It’s this pure, natural energy that brings a deep sense of joy, which I aim to capture in my work.

There is something transformative about immersing oneself in water—it makes you feel like a new person. As you sink from the earth’s surface into total submersion, it’s as if you’ve found a magical land where all of life’s noise disappears. The ocean, in particular, has a profound energy force. When diving into its powerful stretch, often through white foamy waves, you are enveloped by its strength and peace simultaneously.

This sculpture embodies that awe, joy, and relief we experience when surrounded by water. It’s a reflection of the feeling of being engulfed by nature’s embrace. The act of creating it moved me deeply, as I strive to exaggerate movement and bring each form to life. It’s like capturing the twinkle in someone’s eye—a symbol of resilience and vitality that persists, no matter what life brings.

Using the ancient lost wax method for this piece connects the timelessness of the past with the present. This technique, involving heat, water, and air, mirrors the elements that inspire me most. For me, art doesn’t just reflect reality—it challenges it. My sculpture invites viewers into a world that’s more vibrant, profound, and filled with endless possibilities, offering hope and renewal, much like the sea itself.”

    Rix Wellmann

    Rix Wellmann

Throughout her life, Rix Wellmann has felt a profound connection between the images in her mind and the emotions they evoke. For her, perceiving the world extends beyond the visible into the intangible, the emotional layers beneath the surface of everyday life. Despite the contrast between reality and perception, her goal remains constant: to capture and share the magical essence that exists in the space between them.
Art has always been Rix Wellmann’s anchor, a form of communication that transcends words. From an early age, she discovered an innate ability to sense and interpret the energy of those around her, a gift and a challenge that has shaped her understanding of human emotion and deepened her connection to the world. This sensitivity extends to animals and fuels her creative practice, driving her to capture the emotional essence of every subject she sculpts, paints, or draws.
Through her work, Rix Wellmann invites viewers to step into this emotional space and experience life from a perspective that may be unfamiliar, yet profoundly moving. She draws inspiration from the people she meets, the animals she connects with, and the natural beauty that surrounds her.
Moments of pure joy, often born from pain or struggle, serve as reminders of life’s small yet significant pleasures. These fleeting moments form the foundation of her work, expressing both hardship and hope. Rix Wellmann has learned that even in suffering, one can embrace colour and celebrate the incremental joys of existence.
Though she works across various mediums, sculpture remains Rix Wellmann’s first love. There is a unique immediacy in shaping physical materials, allowing her to give form to the intangible and breathe life into emotional undercurrents. It is her most authentic voice and it translates inner landscapes into tactile, tangible expressions.
As she continues to evolve as an artist, Rix Wellmann remains committed to exploring emotion, energy, and the human condition. Her work is a dialogue between herself and the world and an invitation for others to pause, feel, and find beauty within life’s smallest moments.
Rix Wellmann is represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
