Within South Africa we courier your artwork to your door - the shipping cost will show at the checkout.

When shipping art internationally, two primary options are commonly considered: crated and rolled. Crating involves securely packaging the artwork in a custom-built crate, providing maximum protection against physical damage but often resulting in higher shipping costs due to size and weight.
On the other hand, rolling art involves taking stretched paintings off the frame, carefully wrapping the artwork and placing it in a protective tube. This method is more cost-effective and suitable for flexible pieces.
Choosing between crating and rolling depends on the specific artwork's size, fragility, and budget, as well as the destination's shipping requirements and regulations.

We will be in touch regarding the best options for you.

    Description

Not a perfect King Protea, but one shaped by weather and time. Its form carries the marks of endurance if to reflect a life lived in the elements. And yet, it remains deeply attractive, drawing in a small sculpted bee who. is a quiet witness to its continued vitality.

With two leaf-like forms extending outward like open arms, the sculpture holds a gentle sense of welcome and character. It invites us to look more closely and to smile at the wonder of nature.

Bee Dazzled celebrates beauty in imperfection. It speaks to authenticity, to the grace of standing as one is, and to the choice of joy regardless of condition.

The protea, South Africa’s national flower, is among the oldest flowering plants on earth. Its survival lies in its ability to adapt and regenerate within ever-changing climates. Resistant to fire, yet dependent on it for renewal, it embodies a profound resilience, sustaining not only itself but the wider ecological community.

In this work, that resilience is both honoured and humanised and is a reminder that even in weathered states, we remain capable of attracting life, connection and wonder.

    Rix Wellmann

Throughout her life, Rix Wellmann has felt a profound connection between the images in her mind and the emotions they evoke. For her, perceiving the world extends beyond the visible into the intangible—into the emotional layers beneath everyday life. Despite the tension between reality and perception, her aim remains constant: to capture and share the magical essence that exists in the space between them. Art has always been her anchor and a form of communication that transcends words. From an early age, she recognised an innate ability to sense and interpret the energy of those around her—both a gift and a challenge that has shaped her understanding of human emotion and deepened her connection to nature and the world. This heightened sensitivity, extending to animals and the natural environment, fuels her creative practice and drives her to capture the emotional essence of every subject she sculpts, paints, or draws. Through her work, Wellmann invites viewers into a space where human form and the movement of nature merge—creating pieces that are tender, sincere, humorous, and quietly tenacious. For her, art is not a replica of life but a mechanism that enables the viewer to see and feel joy—an “ah-ha” moment of recognition. Inspired by the people she encounters, the animals she connects with, and fleeting moments of beauty often born from struggle, her work reflects both vulnerability and hope. Although she works across various mediums, sculpture remains her first love. The immediacy of shaping physical materials allows her to give form to the intangible and breathe life into imagination, translating inner landscapes into tactile, tangible expressions. As she continues to evolve, Rix Wellmann remains committed to exploring emotion, energy, and the human connection to nature. Her work is a dialogue between herself and the world—an invitation to pause, feel deeply, and rediscover beauty in life’s smallest moments. Rix Wellman lives and works in a remote coastal setting in South Africa, where the rhythm of the ocean and the surrounding natural landscape profoundly shape her artistic perspective. An avid swimmer and diver, she engages intimately with the marine environment, developing a heightened sensitivity to the subtle details of nature—light, movement, texture, and form. This deep, personal connection to her surroundings is reflected in her work, where observation and experience merge into a quiet yet compelling visual language. Rix Wellmann is represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town and in 2026 her works are shown for the first time with The Travelling Art Gallery in Europe.
