Claude Chandler

Claude Chandler was born into the vibrant Durban art scene, with both of his parents being accomplished artists and influential figures. Growing up immersed in galleries and studios, Claude's love for portraiture was sparked in 2005 when he began painting his high school teachers. This early project led to a flood of portrait commissions and solidified his identity as an artist while increasing his confidence in his abilities.

Following his passion, Claude pursued a degree in Fine Art at the Durban University of Technology, where he honed his craft and developed his unique artistic voice. After graduating in 2011, he moved to Cape Town to pursue his art career. Since graduating, he has made his mark in the South African art world and beyond, participating in international art fairs, group shows, and solo exhibitions, as well as earning recognition as a finalist in the SPI Portrait Awards.

In recent years, Claude has expanded his repertoire to include street art, producing murals throughout Cape Town and building a dynamic portfolio of urban works. He currently manages and works out of SideTrack Studios, a creative collective he founded in 2020.

Through his portraits and street art, Claude seeks to capture the way he sees the world through his subjects. He invites viewers to question their own perceptions and to contemplate the relationship between the self and the digital world. His art is characterized by a vibrant energy and a deep commitment to capturing the beauty and complexity of the human experience.

Claude Chandler is represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
