Within South Africa we courier your artwork to your door - the shipping cost will show at the checkout.

When shipping art internationally, two primary options are commonly considered: crated and rolled. Crating involves securely packaging the artwork in a custom-built crate, providing maximum protection against physical damage but often resulting in higher shipping costs due to size and weight.
On the other hand, rolling art involves taking stretched paintings off the frame, carefully wrapping the artwork and placing it in a protective tube. This method is more cost-effective and suitable for flexible pieces.
Choosing between crating and rolling depends on the specific artwork's size, fragility, and budget, as well as the destination's shipping requirements and regulations.

We will be in touch regarding the best options for you.

    Phillip Mabote

    Phillip Mabote

Phillip Mabote, born in Qwa-Qwa, Free State in 1982, is a distinguished South African artist who specializes in printmaking, with a particular focus on linocut. He studied Professional Printmaking at the esteemed Artist Proof Studio from 2007 to 2009. During his time as a student, Phillip Mabote actively participated in the Sonke Gender Justice Awareness Campaign and contributed to the Studio’s outreach program by teaching children aged 6 to 14.
Phillip Mabote expresses deep gratitude to the Artist Proof Studio for its pivotal role in his artistic journey, acknowledging its influence in helping him realize his dreams and elevate his presence in the contemporary art world. His dedication to his craft, combined with a passion for mentorship, continues to inspire both his peers and emerging artists alike.
Throughout his career, Phillip Mabote has exhibited widely, including a solo exhibition at the Candice Berman Gallery and group shows at Lizamore and Associates, the South African Fine Art Print Fair, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Industrial Development Corporation, among others.
Phillip Mabote’s artistic philosophy centers on identity and self-discovery. He draws inspiration from the quote by Matshona Dhliwayo: “If a bird believes it is an eagle long enough, it will eventually end up soaring like one.” This ethos underscores his belief in the transformative power of self-perception and determination. His work thoughtfully explores themes of human existence and personal origin—subjects that have long captivated artists, philosophers, and spiritual seekers throughout history.
Currently residing and working in Protea Glen, Soweto, Johannesburg, Phillip Mabote’s printmaking practice has been marked by both significant achievements and meaningful collaborations. He recalls the challenge of creating work within the specific colour palette required by the Hollard brief as a defining moment in his career. His piece, “Journey in Pieces,” was inspired by Hollard’s ethos of joy and the balance between past and future, symbolizing the emergence of light and hope.
In October 2024, Phillip Mabote’s work was included in a permanent exhibition at the Century City Conference Centre (CCCC) in Cape Town. This initiative, in partnership with The Artists Gallery, transformed the venue into a dynamic space showcasing local artistic talent.
Phillip Mabote is currently represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
