Within South Africa we courier your artwork to your door - the shipping cost will show at the checkout.

When shipping art internationally, two primary options are commonly considered: crated and rolled. Crating involves securely packaging the artwork in a custom-built crate, providing maximum protection against physical damage but often resulting in higher shipping costs due to size and weight.
On the other hand, rolling art involves taking stretched paintings off the frame, carefully wrapping the artwork and placing it in a protective tube. This method is more cost-effective and suitable for flexible pieces.
Choosing between crating and rolling depends on the specific artwork's size, fragility, and budget, as well as the destination's shipping requirements and regulations.

We will be in touch regarding the best options for you.

    Description

This beautiful ‘Bee-eaters’ Elephant sculpture, painted by Cape Town artist Sharon Boonzaier, is inspired by the striking Carmine Bee-eater; the vibrance of
these beloved birds living in the beautiful African bush, that dart and dance in the air, is quite a sight to see on safari.

The piece is finished with gold leaf and signed by the artist.

No one piece is the same and each unique head is an artwork to behold.

This is a one-off art piece.

You are welcome to commission something similar, using the ‘Bee-eaters’ theme, but it will not the same as the one in the photo – we want each sculpture purchased to be unique. Please contact us to order.

The sculpture comes flat-packed with clear instructions on how to assemble and hang, as well as a story about the artist.

    Head on Design

Head On Design and Sharon Boonzaier

Inspired by the African bush, Joanna Orr of Head On Design has reimagined traditional trophy heads as artistic, eco-conscious wall sculptures that celebrate wildlife without harm. A passionate nature lover, she creates each piece using sustainable or recycled materials such as bamboo and birch, keeping the planet in mind. Over the past 15 years, she has also contributed to wildlife conservation efforts supporting endangered rhino, lion, and elephant populations.

Joanna approaches every design by hand, starting with pencil sketches from multiple angles before crafting small paper models and producing the final slot-together 3D sculpture. Her collection features animals such as kudu, elephant, lion, and rhino. She describes her style as “conscious modern Afrocentric,” ensuring each piece carries a meaningful environmental message beyond aesthetics.

In 2017, she began collaborating with Cape Town-based artist Sharon Boonzaier to create a range of uniquely hand-painted heads inspired by Southern African themes. A descendant of renowned South African artist Gregoire Boonzaier, Sharon brings bold expression, fluidity, and intricate pattern work to every sculpture. Themes include “Savanna,” inspired by African plains wildlife; “Fynbos,” reflecting proteas and birdlife found on the slopes of Table Mountain; and tributes to vibrant regional birds such as the Carmine Bee-eater and Lilac Breasted Roller. Each painted piece is entirely unique.

Finished in gold leaf and signed by the artist, the sculptures are sold flat-packed with easy assembly instructions, though they can also be shipped assembled.

The collection is on display at The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
