Within South Africa we courier your artwork to your door - the shipping cost will show at the checkout.

When shipping art internationally, two primary options are commonly considered: crated and rolled. Crating involves securely packaging the artwork in a custom-built crate, providing maximum protection against physical damage but often resulting in higher shipping costs due to size and weight.
On the other hand, rolling art involves taking stretched paintings off the frame, carefully wrapping the artwork and placing it in a protective tube. This method is more cost-effective and suitable for flexible pieces.
Choosing between crating and rolling depends on the specific artwork's size, fragility, and budget, as well as the destination's shipping requirements and regulations.

We will be in touch regarding the best options for you.

    Description

The Emoji Series symbolizes modern change and the growing influence of popular culture. Inspired by the universal language of emojis, these works explore how emotion, identity, and communication have evolved in the digital age. Through sculpture, the series transforms familiar symbols into physical forms that invite reflection, connection, and interaction. Each piece represents a distinct emotional expression while celebrating the playful yet powerful role emojis have come to play in contemporary society — a fun language of its own.

Stuck-Out Tongue Closed Eyes embodies playfulness, spontaneity, and carefree expression. Inspired by the lighthearted energy of digital communication, the sculpture captures the humorous side of human interaction and the freedom to express emotion without words. The exaggerated expression reflects a sense of fun, mischief, and youthful energy that resonates across cultures and generations. By transforming this familiar emoji into sculptural form, the work explores how contemporary symbols have become part of everyday language — expressive, immediate, and universally understood. Like the other works in the Emoji Series, the piece celebrates modern culture’s evolving visual vocabulary and the emotional connections created through it.

“Sculpture, for me, is more than a form — it is a language, and in my Emoji Sculptures, that language becomes joyful, playful, and profoundly human,” says Chris Daniels. Born in 1984 and raised on Rust en Vrede, the Engelbrecht family estate in Stellenbosch, Daniels found his creative voice not in formal classrooms, but through hands-on discovery, deep reflection, and a steady journey toward artistic identity. His love for sculpture began in 2007 while working at a bronze casting foundry — an experience that sparked a lifelong passion and instilled in him the craftsmanship and discipline essential to this enduring art form. The Emoji Series was born in 2018, during a time of personal and creative introspection. “I had reached a moment in my career where I felt compelled to explore not just how I create, but why,” Daniels reflects. “What emerged was a series that merges traditional sculptural techniques with the vibrant pulse of contemporary culture — a body of work that bridges heritage and innovation, humor and emotion, material and metaphor.” His sculptures are modest in size but bold in impact — defined by exaggerated, oversized heads and smooth, highly polished chrome surfaces. Inspired by the graphic language of pop art and the universal appeal of emojis, the first six figures in the series each convey messages of love, peace, happiness, or joy. “These are the only messages I choose to share,” the artist says. “It’s a deliberate act of optimism in a world often overwhelmed by complexity.” In today’s digital age, emojis have evolved into a global visual language — a means of communication that transcends borders and breaks down barriers. A single icon can express what entire paragraphs may fail to convey. With A Fun Language of Its Own, Daniels translates this emotional clarity and visual immediacy into three-dimensional form. His creative process is deeply intuitive — shaped as much by instinct and emotion as by technique and design. The clean, striking aesthetic of his work is designed to complement both modern architecture and natural landscapes, inviting interaction, reflection, and, for both young and old, a smile. While playful on the surface, each piece carries the weight of intention: to uplift, to connect, and to communicate. As an experienced sculptor rooted in traditional techniques yet inspired by modern culture, Daniels sees this series as a natural evolution in his artistic journey — a sculptural celebration of human expression at its most joyful. Through his work, Daniels seeks to offer more than visual appeal. He aims to contribute to a world where messages are heartfelt and emotions are shared — where art becomes a universal language.
