Description
“She smiles as she balance the sweetness of modernity on her traditional kalabash/claypot. She smiles because her culture and tradition is the vessel she holds onto, and provides an anchor in a changing world.
She acknowledge the value of her African Cultural Traditions , as she compromise and find common ground with Western tradition, the one not superior to the other but embraced in harmony.
I wanted to portray my proud African female figure embracing the old and the new, the traditional and the contemporary, finding the balance between the western idea of individualism and the traditional idea of community.
She is surrounded by the sweet excesses of the new, but finds a balance that makes her smile and confident with her traditional values. “
