Description
“””Rooi Blokke, Wit Blokke, Blou Blokke””
(Red Blocks, White Blocks, Blue Blocks)
A quick, common reference, people use in certain areas on the Cape Flats to point out what housing block they come from. Blocks of housing-flats are painted different colours and is an easy reference as to what “”Block”” you are living on.
These cheap, low cost, dull-colored housing Blocks are in stark contrast to the beautiful, bright, colour-soaked homes of the Bo-Kaap.
This was the 3rd and final painting I started in Leipzig, Germany and completed in Cape Town. Feeling a wee bit homesick and nostalgic at the time I started this piece in Germany, it was just natural to paint what feels comfortable and homely to me.”
