Sizwe Khoza

Sizwe Khoza, a distinguished contemporary visual artist, was born in Mozambique in 1990, amidst the final years of the country’s Civil War. In 1995, he relocated to South Africa, a move that profoundly influenced his artistic journey.

His formal education began at Nkumbulo Comprehensive School, where he matriculated in 2010. He attended printmaking classes at the esteemed Artist Proof Studio, an experience that ignited his passion for the arts and led to his graduation in 2012.

Khoza's early works were heavily influenced by photographs depicting black women and their surroundings in Mozambique, reflecting his deep connection to his heritage. This connection remains a significant source of inspiration, as Khoza makes biannual trips to Mozambique to capture the essence of his homeland through photography and sketching, translating these experiences into his art.

In 2013, Khoza was awarded a residency at the William Humphrey Art Gallery in Kimberley, where he was mentored by the late Dumisani Mabaso. This residency allowed him to specialize in various printmaking techniques such as drypoint and silkscreen.

By 2014, Khoza had transitioned into an educational role, teaching printmaking to first and second-year students at Artist Proof Studio, thereby nurturing the next generation of artists.

Khoza's artistic journey has seen him participate in numerous group exhibitions both locally and internationally.

In Cape Town, Sizwe Khoza is showing his art at The Artists Gallery.
