![]() | Christo du ToitBorn in 1986 in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, Christo du Toit grew up in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, where his parents ran the safari lodge Shinga (now Leopard Hills). Surrounded by wildlife, he developed a passion for drawing animals early on. After moving to Hermanus in 1997, he studied under watercolour artist Peter Earl, cultivating a style he calls “delicate recklessness”, expressive, intuitive, and grounded in risk-taking. Christo’s work embraces the unpredictability of the creative process, allowing each piece to evolve organically. His recent wildlife portraits, drawn in micro-fine ink on fine art paper, are created through intuitive meditation. Though serious in subject, they contain subtle tongue-in-cheek elements and invite personal interpretation. Each piece takes two to three months to complete. Now based in Muizenberg, Cape Town, Christo identifies as an environmental artist. His work has been exhibited internationally and collected globally. He has collaborated with WWF Switzerland, Goethe-Institut Namibia, Oncafari, and exhibited at a United Nations (UNDRR) summit in Windhoek, Namibia. Christo du Toit is represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town. “I have always seen my work as pieces of mind - revealing the discovery of life, love, and everything in between.” |
