Description
This artwork is inspired by the song ‘Elsie’ by the local South African band, Die Heuwels Fantasties, a character whose spirit I deeply identify with.
Elsie, derived from Elizabeth, meaning ‘God’s promise’ and often associated with royalty. She is seen by the world as someone elevated, yet she never places herself above others. I relate to that softness: the desire to give, and to walk humbly through a world that often values the opposite.
Music plays a vital role in my creative process, and in this piece every brushstroke moves as if guided by a rhythm, flowing, expressive, almost dancing. Through colour, movement, and gesture, I wanted to honour a woman who is rich not in status, but in heart; someone graceful, generous, and grounded. This artwork is a celebration of humility wrapped in quiet strength, the true royalty of the soul.
