Description
This piece is part of a series of three artworks. (3/3)
Together, they deliver a strong message about embracing the diverse identities of women in our country and stressing the importance of safeguarding the future, symbolized by the gold baby.
Much like our nation’s roots in the Johannesburg gold mines, the series suggests our future hinges on the well-being of the younger generation.
With the addition of a laundry line, the artwork accentuates the perpetual nature of a mother’s responsibilities. While she dedicates herself to ensuring her baby’s strength and health, the presence of the laundry line underscores the unending demands of running a household. It signifies the multitasking role of a mother, who not only cares for her child but also manages the daily chores and works to afford essentials like NAN, a well-known baby formula brand in South Africa.
